While others were busy planning their end of the year vacations, we were all working and Max managed to pull a half marathon at the Bangkok Marathon in December. But it has been a good and eventful time here at the cutting station.

In December, Max worked with DSLR ace shooter Martin Landsburg of HD Productions to produce 4! fresh new HD virals for Lancome Thailand. They launched an online VIRAL to promote their new line of makeup – to show that with the right techniques, you can create multiple looks with your set. We shot in a studio with a Canon DSLR and the results speak for themselves I think.

Here’s one of the looks called Natural Chic, baby.. the rest are called Romantic Love, Smoky Rock and Sensual Glamour.

POSTPROP worked with GMotif, one the premiere corporate presentation producers in the region to create a short, 15 minute film for Bangkok Insurance Public Company. It was shot on Canon DSLR and sound/color was done at Zealots.

In January, POSTPROP who helped Biogrow create 2 TVC’s for cable last year also did some digital marketing and helped launch a new website for the company bringing them into Web2.0 mode.

In January, the most exciting news for us was that we would again collaborate with none other than Director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang (Last Life in the Universe, Monrak Transistor) on his new feature film HEADSHOT. It is a Thai crime noir! We are working closely with famed edtior Nui Yukol to make sure this project lands this May at the shores of Cannes.

We helped punch out a trailer for the 9filmfest working with Brian Bennett.

We worked with agency Maison to edit a colorful HD video for Dulux Paint Thailand. They chronicled a day in which almost all the employees went out and painted an area of Bangkok called BonKai which was burnt during the riots. This public awareness piece was shown on BTS train stations in Novemeber and December 2010,

Last but not least, POSTPROP is proud to produce a 5 minute video for the Camillian Home to help raise funds and awareness for children living with HIV and disabilities. The video features the beautiful black and white photography of Thomas Crowne.

They collaborated with POSTPROP Editorial on the currently on-hold Bupha Rahtree 3.0 “remix”, the trailer to Saturday Killer (in Theatres now!!!) and this past few weeks on a brand new Car4Cash Krungsri Auto TVC called “Haunted Bathroom”.

The clients loved the Haunted Bathroom so much, the even commissioned a 3 minute version (a short film commercial!) for some nice, scary entertainment in their banks. Talk about cool.

This Car4Cash ad is also part of a Four Directors Campaign that features some of the best auteurs in town – Tom Penek, Tom Yuthlert, and directors Wisit and Madeow (all known locally by their first names basically).

So stay tuned for the Car4Cash media blitz, and in the meantime, go have a laugh at the theatres and watch Saturday Killer – an epic ACTION/COMEDY that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. Promise.

For me, the feelings and events have to be separated, compartmentalized, for one incident is a test of a nation, another is a breakthrough of the human spirit. Yet everything is interconnected as every Thai is connected with his or her homeland. That said, it is only fair to mourn Thailand’s troubles but at the same time celebrate her sons’ and daughters’ great achievement. Apichatpong Weerasethakul (director), Nooh Sirithnanawuddhi (assistant director), Lee Chatimetikool (film editor), Rit Kalayanamitr (sound editor), and the entire team deserve much praise for their outstanding work and achievement – a feat fully based on their own merits of unwavering vision, huge talent, and relentless determination (I have witnessed these qualities first hand). We are proud of you and so proud to be affiliated to your work, your cause and your companies. May Uncle Boonmee bring you much more success and glory… and may the art gods and ghosts bless you with boundless creativity and joy.

We have been busy on many projects since the start of the year, but boy oh boy, they have been waiting patiently for their releases (these things seem to take time). To mention a few, there is the new epic Thaitanium Music Video directed by Hollywood/Thailandwood director KAOS (P’Wych to us). All we have to say that it is gonna be a huge launch next month or so, and we were so proud to edit this.

Kaos also produced a handful of Vietnamese Music Videos this year with the talented “Thao Trang” and edited with us also. Her vocals are great and range from Hip-Hop to sweet rock ballads. Stay tuned for a web release I’m sure (if you are not in Vietnam).

Big news is we have teamed up/partnered with Sim&Son Communications to produce two television commercials for Biogrow Thailand (a pharma company that delivers many health related products to market). We helped on the creative production stages and all the post work as well. Both AD’s were shot on the RED cam. Great teamwork guys!

We worked with PostBangkok as editor for a fun Pakistani Commercial for Clicks Cookies! It was shot on 3 Canon 5D Mark II’s and the pictures were awesome.. looks exactly like film because film lenses were used. Duh!

Last but not least, we are proud to be part of the BNI networking group (google it), and share sales and marketing knowledge in hopes to contribute to a better world. Well, maybe those goals are a little lofty, but better aim high!

This month has been traditional Thai appreciation month I think. We’ve worked hard on two special projects that we hope take off in a big way, since they represent some very important and must-be-preseved Thai art forms – Takraw (a Thai wicker ball sport) and Looktoong (basically Thai Folk/country music).

Takraw (working title of this project is the same as the sport) is what we would categorize as a passion project – it is a “6 minute extended trailer” based on a treatment of the script. The person at the helm of this project is none other than Mutita “Air” Na Songkhla Production Coordinator and also Wardrobe Supervisor for Legend Films (Thailand). Her dedication and passion to film is undisputed and her filmography speaks for itself (see here). We are proud to help her reach her goal of bringing another Thai artform – the sport of TAKRAW to the bigscreen, and hope and believe that it will happen.

Our second project this month was the completion of the 45-minute pilot for the a new TV series called “Idin Klin Dao” (From the soil to the stars). It is an epic 13 episodes series that will go through the history and interviews living legends of this Thai music genre “Looktoong” which is essentially the folk music of Thailand . The name means “children of the fields”.. literally. The concept is a bit like an arty documentary of present day interviews and shows intercut with historical reels of old photo’s and archive material. POSTPROP worked with Tangkwa Matograph on this project to create the look and feel of the Pilot Episode… SO Good luck guys… and by the way the first episode airs tonight on TRUE VISIONS at 10 pm as well! What great timing.

We thought it was really neat that our two big projects this month involved some neat acronyms (?).. or initials shall I say. We’ve been happy to meet the super nice folks at W.H.O. aka WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (South East Asian Office, Thailand) and was contracted to work on streamlining their media into slick training material. It is quite a challenge and also quite an important task considering the the organization’s notable presence in the “media spotlight” these days (specifically with the H1N1 virus outbreak). We were also impressed with their offices being literally inside the Ministry of Health here, which showed a commitment to the issues here locally. That observation aside, our task was to create material to “train the trainers” and make sure that all procedures are easily and VISUALLY studied by as many departments as possible whether it be “Outbreak Procedures” or “Communication Methods”. We even had to do some animation for one of the major scenarios… very interesting work to say the least! Looking forward to Phase 2 (which could be more regional work)!

Also from the POSTPROP furnace this month were two short and oh so sweet commercials which we were entirely responsible for ZE CUTS. The first was the “third phase” of the Thai People TV Campaign manned by Tangkwa Matograph (we love working with you guys!! . It featured 4x 15 second spots and like 1 x 30 and 1 x 60 director’s cuts!!! WOW!!! Major major media blitz guys… good job! Clients were reeeelllyy happy about the nice “output” may I add.. hehe.

And now… to divulge the meaning to our second acronym.. (drum roll please) S… H… E… is for S.H.E., a Taiwanese pop band (who’s hottt band members happen to be named, yup – Selina,Hebe,and Ella)!! The trio have been chosen to represent the latest OSIM uKimono Belts – basically a massage belt to help firm up the “tummy”, “bums”, and “thighs” (o la laa). The TVC also features animated 3D cartoon character known simply as “Mr. Fat” (imagine a cross between jabba the hut and bambi.. maybe that doesn’t help, sorry). Basically, Mr. Fat is put in a futuristic arena with the “S.H.E. fighters” who beat the sillly *BLEEP*, sorry, out of him (hahaha). This campaign was our first CHINESE TVC and we are soo soo proud to be part of this great project. Don’t worry, we also prepared versions in Taiwanese, and in English folks… so it’s regional folks!! woo hoo! Stay tuned!!!! The Bitter/Sweet (directed by Jeff Hare) Trailer and Teaser were cut in FULL HD for future theatrical release at POSTPROP for Angel and Bear Productions. The feature has won BEST DIRECTOR and BEST FEATURE at the Houston International Film Festival in 2009. It is also playing at the Feel Good Film Festival this August 7- 9 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Super cool! Good luck Jeff!!

Also completed is a soon to be televised 30-sec television commercial for the “Thai People” campaign produced by Tangkwa Matograph. A 60 sec version could be released in Thai theaters as well. It features excepts from leading celebrities on why they love the motherland. This ad was sponsored by the Premier Group.

We’ve also assisted Film Fac+Pum Sound Studio on a Thai Airways (TG) commercial that turned out great! We’ll put a link up once it’s out there folks.

Some really fun stuff we did was help Houdini Studio edit (filled in for a week) and work on the feature titles(woohoo) to up and coming ghost movie “Shadows” by John Penny. It’s a bit under wraps at the moment but stay tuned.

Max also re-cut and translated a “ONLY THE BRAVE” FRAGRANCE promo for DIESEL in Thailand.

We’ve had to say farewell to an old friend and Writer/Director Bjorn Turmann who moved to NYC. We spent a few days so far working on a Video Wall concept featuring a “Deconstructed/re-constructed garden” (yes, another experimental piece) and will be released on youtube later this month.
